{dreams of childhood}

Thank you so much for sharing your interpretations of ‘dreams of childhood’ this week!
I loved seeing the varied takes and ways to make an image dream-like.  From the judicious use of out-of-focus areas to edits with dreamy tones, and the embrace of flare and haze to the use of perspective and scale,
I hope you have fun trying some of these methods out in future!

Her backward glance is the cherry on top of this vibrant yet dreamy image.  Is she reminiscing or conjuring up big dreams for the future?

..................................

What is she looking out for?  I can’t decide which I love more, the focus on the hanging stars in an otherwise perfectly out-of-focus image, or her shadow on the wall suggesting an impression of an impression … a dream within a dream!

..................................

What a gorgeous take on a childhood favourite!  The choice of edit in black and white over colour puts the focus squarely on light and shadow to define the contours of the carousel.

..................................

Just a hint of water topped up with a giant splash of sunshine … A hazy happy take on childhood!

..................................

Love how much of the landscape is included in this image … The big expanse of sky and foreground and small size of the figures makes this feel like a memory observed from a distance.

..................................

Did his little friend just leave, or is he wishing for some company?  Some beautiful backlight tops off this wistful take on a playground swing.

..................................

This image is all about tones and light, with just enough detail to make out the little girl lost in her own dreamworld.

..................................

As if an awe-inspiring landscape and intriguing rainbow light artifact were not enough … you peer into this dreamy image and see a child-sized teddy bear.  Just the ticket.

..................................

Too much flare isn’t a problem in this warm hazy image of childhood.  The little girl almost blends into her environment, lost in her exploration just as the viewer is immersed in the golden light.

..................................

This gorgeous black and white edit puts the focus solely on the little girl through the light and shadows.  She looks like she is almost reaching into her reflection, entering another realm in her dreams.

And the winner is......

So much to love about this photo!  The hand reaching downward from the top bunk draws you immediately into this dark edit to hunt around for other treasures - the hint of a mirthful face, the beautiful shapes of the window flare leading your eyes perfectly to the ‘HAPPY’ letters in the window.  A dream made up perfectly of little fragments.
